About CHANCE
Our Philosophy
The Purpose of the Charity is to provide the opportunity of schooling
and general support to these needy children through a relationship
with their sponsor. How do we approach our task?
- Children are selected on the basis of the neediness of their
families. In addition to socio -demographic factors such as
income, the charity will also only support families on the basis
of their attitude towards sponsorship. CHANCE will help those
who wish to help themselves. Therefore family contributions,
however small, are encouraged, and family involvement with the
schooling will need to be demonstrated to the field officers.
- Relationships between Sponsors and recipients are encouraged
to develop through the Charity so as an understanding of each
others cultures and lifestyles can be developed. This correspondence
will be channelled through the Charitys management committee
(all of whom are voluntary)
- The schooling should where possible be in an English Medium
School to provide an advantage to the childrens potential
and choices upon graduation. Where-ever possible the children
will attend as day scholars to local schools so they can be
cared for by their parents / guardians and remain in their community.
A boarding option will be the last resort for: i) orphaned children
or ii) those from rural areas suffering school closures.
- In the case of boarding scholars the family or guardians remain
responsible for the children, as the point of contact for school
during term time and full responsibility during the holidays.
- Related provisions may be made available to the sponsored
children such as books, stationary, uniforms. In addition supplementary
clothing, food allowance and the like may also be provided depending
on the needs of each case.
