A guide to child sponsorship - your questions answered

How are children chosen for sponsorship?

Sange with familyWe have Field Officers working in the Kathmandu Valley and the Himalayan regions including SagarMatha NP, Annapurna NP and Langtang NP..The role of these Officers is three-fold:

  • communicate with community leaders in the regions
  • Liaise with welfare organisations working for the homeless and needy
  • to investigate poor areas and interview prospective sponsorship cases

All cases from each of these 3 leads are reviewed by the Officers and discussed with the UK team. Individual or group sponsorship is then recommended on the basis of both level of neediness and attitudes of the recipients towards sponsorship. It is important to us that all our recipients have a desire to better themselves - CHANCE helps those who wish to help themselves.

Once selected families are asked if they want to be part of the sponsorship program. They are informed about the operating principles specifying what is expected from them as well as what they will receive.

Finally, we do not “promote” or “market” individuals. We have a strictly no photo policy. Children are selected on the basis of their neediness, not their attractiveness and we hope you choose to support them for the same reasons.
