About CHANCE

The story of a single parent mother

AdityaThe background ...

Sanu Ramba is a single parent mother after her husband left her and deserted his family.

She is a 26 year old Hindi trying to work as a house maid and make handicrafts. However with two children to care for she finds it difficult to work and provide for her family.

What has CHANCE done? ...

CHANCE has helped Sanu to put Aditya her younger son into school. This has a dual impact of educating Aditya – something we take for granted but a chance he would otherwise have not received, and in many ways more importantly, this allows Sanu to be freed up to go out and find work as a maid and pursue her handicraft skills. To earn a living to provide for both her and her children’s future gives Sanu her self respect. This is fundamental to our philosophy – helping people to help themselves. We do not wish to create a “dependency culture” but to help families to get on their feet and in time be able to support themselves.

This family now has a chance to improve their standard of living and through the education of the children, allow their mother her dignity back with the ability to help herself . They will now be followed and helped by our Field Officers as this is only the beginning of the story. We will have succeeded when Sanu is able to support her family herself and gain independence.

This family are sponsored by a Lady living in Lydiate in Merseyside. Other families like this are able to be sponsored by the efficient management of Gift Aid. For every pound donated by UK taxpayers, we can claim 28 pence from the Inland Revenue. These are vital funds which allow us to broaden our reach and provide hope of a new CHANCE for more children and families.
